Yes, you need a visa. Pakistan isn't on either of Vietnam's 45-day exemption lists: Resolution 44/NQ-CP of March 7, 2025 covers 12 countries, among them the UK, Germany and Japan, and Resolution 229/NQ-CP of August 8, 2025 adds 12 European countries for tourism only. Nor is it among the 15 countries with bilateral visa-free agreements for ordinary passports. So if you've read that Vietnam is visa-free for Pakistanis, it isn't. If anyone in your group holds another passport, check every nationality's Vietnam visa rules.

Do Pakistani Citizens Need a Visa for Vietnam?

What's open to you is the eVisa. Citizens of every country and territory can apply for a Vietnam eVisa, and that's been the rule since August 15, 2023. You choose single or multiple entry, and Pakistan isn't one of the 3 nationalities the eVisa system flags for extra mandatory questions, so you get the standard form. Vietnam accepts eVisa holders at 83 border crossings: 17 airports, 27 land border gates and 39 seaports, a count the Vietnamese Embassy in Islamabad published itself.

The one visa-free option that does apply to you is Phu Quoc island, for up to 30 days. It works when you arrive from abroad, either direct or by staying in the transit area of another Vietnamese international airport, and it covers the island only.

⚠️ Two agency claims are out of date. Several Pakistani agency pages still say a Vietnamese invitation letter is mandatory for every Pakistani and that the eVisa is 30 days, single entry. Both describe the system before August 15, 2023. Since then the eVisa has been open to all nationalities for up to 90 days, single or multiple entry, and the form asks you to upload a portrait photo and your passport data page, not an invitation.

Why the eVisa Is the Right Choice

No embassy trip to Islamabad, no visa-on-arrival line. You fill in one form online, and the approved eVisa is a PDF file you download from Vietnam Immigration's eVisa site, which we email to you. We don't process visa-on-arrival letters anymore, and we recommend the eVisa to every applicant.

Requirements for Pakistani Applicants

Before you open the form, check six things:

⚠️ A stopgap passport can't carry an eVisa. The portal lists emergency and temporary passports among those it won't issue a visa for. If yours was lost and you're holding a temporary document, wait for the full replacement, apply on it, and use that same passport to enter and leave Vietnam.

Cost: What Pakistani Citizens Pay

Pakistani passport holders choose from the same four options as everyone else. Pick the length by your return date and the entry type by your route. Each price is per person, charged in US dollars, and up to 10 travelers can share one order:

OptionValidityOur fee (per applicant)
1 Month Single Entry30 days from arrival$54
1 Month Multiple Entry30 days from arrival$84
3 Month Single Entry90 days from arrival$94
3 Month Multiple Entry90 days from arrival$104

All prices include the Vietnam Immigration Department's stamp fee. Add-ons and group orders are in the full fee breakdown.

Here's where your money goes. Vietnam Immigration charges $25 for a single-entry eVisa and $50 for multiple entry, the same stamp fee published on evisa.gov.vn, and our fee is the difference. On a 1-month single entry, $25 of your $54 goes to Immigration and $29 is ours; on a 3-month multiple entry, it's $50 to Immigration and $54 to us. If you'd rather file it yourself at evisa.gov.vn, you'll pay only the $25 single or $50 multiple stamp fee. Paying us buys a second set of eyes before anything is filed, and someone to chase the application if Immigration comes back with a question.

Two refund rules apply, and they're separate. Vietnam Immigration keeps its fee if it refuses the application. Our terms are narrower than a money-back promise: you get everything back if you cancel within 5 to 10 minutes of applying, or if we find a problem before we submit, such as an invalid passport. If we can't help you and expect Vietnam Immigration would deny the application, or we can't deliver on time, we refund the full amount. Once the eVisa is issued, nothing comes back. Vietnam Visa by BDA is a private company, and we're not affiliated with the Vietnamese government. Your Pakistani bank turns our dollar charge into rupees at its own rate.

Processing Times

Speeds and surcharges, per applicant:

  • Normal: 5 to 10 business days, included in the price
  • Urgent: 2 business days, +$45
  • Super Urgent: 1 business day, +$85

Those times count from when your file reaches Vietnam Immigration, which we normally manage within 2 business hours of payment, so checkout isn't day one. The law gives Immigration 3 working days to decide once the application is complete and the fee is paid; in practice 3 to 5 working days is normal. Holidays stretch it, Tet most of all: the 2027 break for Vietnam's civil servants, Immigration included, runs from Thursday, February 4 to Wednesday, February 10.

Vietnam Immigration sets the pace, not us: we can file, chase and correct, but we can't move an approval up the line. Give yourself one to two weeks before you fly out of Karachi, Lahore or Islamabad and the speed tiers stop mattering. If you leave in under 24 hours, call +84 832 320 320 between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. Pakistan time before you pay. If the timing can't work, we'll say so and refund rather than let you miss the flight.

Single vs Multiple Entry

Decide by the shape of your trip, not its length. A single-entry eVisa is used up the moment you leave Vietnam. A connection in Bangkok or Dubai on the way in doesn't count, because you still enter Vietnam only once. A side trip to Cambodia, Laos or Thailand and back does: you leave, you come back, and that second entry needs a multiple-entry eVisa.

The upgrade is $30 on the 1-month eVisa ($84 instead of $54) and only $10 on the 3-month one ($104 instead of $94). Set that against $54 for a second single-entry eVisa if a Bangkok stopover turns into a return trip. When in doubt, choose multiple entry.

Photo Requirements

The eVisa portal's instruction for the portrait reads: "newly taken, photo size 4x6 cm, jpg, jpeg format, size <2MB, straight face, no hat, no glasses, formal clothes, white background". In practice, check five things:

  • Newly taken, not an old passport photo reused
  • A straight face, looking into the camera
  • No glasses
  • No hat
  • A white background and formal clothes

The file should be a JPG or JPEG under 2MB. On head coverings, the portal's only rule is "no hat" and it lists no religious exception. If you wear a hijab or another head covering for your faith, email us or call before you apply, and we'll look at your photo before anything is filed.

How to Apply, Step by Step

Under 10 minutes, no signup required. For more detail on each screen, see our step-by-step application guide.

  1. Fill in your trip details. Pakistan goes in the nationality box; then set the eVisa length, entries, arrival date and the airport where you'll first land.
  2. Type your name exactly as on the ICAO lines, the machine-readable lines on your passport's data page, in capital letters. If your passport shows only one name, it goes in the given-name box.
  3. Add the two uploads: the passport data page scan and the portrait.
  4. Pick Normal, Urgent or Super Urgent and pay in dollars by card.
  5. We review, correct and submit. We check the form against your passport and photo, fix errors at no extra cost, then file it with Vietnam Immigration, normally within 2 business hours of payment.
  6. Your eVisa arrives by email as a PDF. Check the name, passport number and dates the moment it lands. Vietnam's immigration law describes printing the eVisa from the portal, so carry a printed copy, and keep one on your phone.

Where Pakistani Citizens Typically Arrive

There's no nonstop flight between Pakistan and Vietnam, so plan on one connection:

Those routes land you at Noi Bai in Hanoi (HAN) or Tan Son Nhat in Ho Chi Minh City (SGN), and that's the gate to put on your application. For an onward flight to Da Nang, remember that connecting to a domestic flight means clearing immigration at that first airport, so list it as your gate.

At a Vietnam-Pakistan tourism business-matching program in Hanoi and Ha Long on September 22 to 24, 2026, nearly 100 Vietnamese and nearly 20 Pakistani travel firms discussed charter flights, but nothing is scheduled yet.

Phu Quoc from Pakistan takes two flights each way. No flights link Pakistan and the island, so you'd connect abroad, for example on the daily Kuala Lumpur to Phu Quoc service that started on September 1, 2026. Clear immigration in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City on the way and you need a visa for that entry.

One Rule to Respect: Do Not Overstay

With an eVisa, you can stay until the end date on the eVisa. If your flight slips three days, you lose three days; the end date doesn't move. Decree 282/2025/ND-CP, in force since December 15, 2025, fines you by how long you stay past that date:

From 16 days late, deportation can be added to the fine, and a deported traveler can't come back into Vietnam for three years. Britain's travel advice adds that overstayers can be stopped from leaving until the fine is paid.

⚠️ Choose the length now, because we can't add time later. Extensions are done from inside Vietnam, through a sponsor applying to Vietnam Immigration, and we don't handle extensions. If your plans might run long, take the 3-month eVisa: a 3-month single entry costs $94, $40 more than the 1-month one.

Common Questions From Pakistani Applicants

I Live in Dubai or Saudi Arabia. Does My Residency Change Anything?

Only your address. You apply on your Pakistani passport exactly as you'd apply from home, because Vietnam's exemptions follow citizenship, not residency. The form asks for a permanent residential address and a contact address separately from your passport's place of issue, so your UAE or Saudi address goes there.

My Passport Has No Surname. What Do I Type?

Copy the name from the ICAO lines of your passport, in capital letters. The form's rule is that a passport carrying only a surname or only given names goes in as given names, so a single name goes in the given-name box and the surname box stays empty. Don't add a name that isn't on those lines just to fill the second box.

I'm Only Visiting Phu Quoc. Do I Still Need an eVisa?

Legally, no: you can visit Phu Quoc visa-free for up to 30 days if you arrive from abroad. But the exemption covers the island only, and going on to the mainland without a visa can bring a fine of VND 3 to 5 million. In April 2026 India's embassy in Hanoi advised Indian travelers to get a visa even for island-only trips, after some needed the mainland for medical treatment or onward travel. The same logic holds on a Pakistani passport.

Which Vietnam Visa Website Is Real?

The government's own eVisa site is evisa.gov.vn, and its Vietnamese-language alias is thithucdientu.gov.vn. Every other visa site, ours included, is a private business. We prepare and check your application, submit it to Vietnam Immigration, and publish the government fee so you can compare. Before you pay anyone, see how to tell a real Vietnam visa website from a fake.

Can I Get a Visa on Arrival on a Pakistani Passport?

Only through a sponsor. Visa on arrival needs a sponsor in Vietnam to get Immigration approval first, and at the border you hand over your passport, the approval letter and a completed form with a photo. The government fee is $25 single or $50 multiple, the same as the eVisa's. For a holiday, the eVisa does the job without a sponsor, which is why we no longer offer VOA processing.
